We have it all - lodging, guided trips, and a great time! ________________________________________________ January 31, 2012 The Winter That Never Was Today temps got up to 45 degrees and tomorrow is supposed to be close to 50 degrees! Lots of fish in the river. It definitely seems that the fish have been "moody". It seems like you could fish a pool for half an hour without a bite and then hook 5 fish on 6 drifts and then nothing for a half hour again. Lately what has been working best for me is to fish just 2, maybe 3 spots all day. Fish where you know the fish are and dig in and wait for the bite. Today I fished the Altmar Bridge area from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. From 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. 2 or 3 hook ups and a few other hits that we just simply missed. From 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. probably 12-15 hook ups and from 12:30 - 2 p.m. just 2-3. It's just kind of odd with no weather or water changes and not even any temperature changes! The fish were obviously in the pool all day. No silver fish moving through - again just "moody". I personally think the fishing would be even better if it was colder more consistently, although 20 hook ups for 3 guys in one spot isn't that bad. We hit fish on about a half dozen different fly patterns, but I say the best was black & chartreuse caddis pattern being the best. Just watch the local weather and the weather is supposed to be the same mid 30's to low 40's. Quite frankly, I have been enjoying the warm weather.
